For those who don’t remember Saturday Night Live of years ago, Al Franken was a writer on the show, and sometimes a performer. He had a quirky dead-pan, yet strutting, style. And this book follows in that tradition.
Using humor, Franken takes plenty of shots at the right-wing media; exposing the mistruths, half-truths, and outright lies that have been told for political gain. He also highlights how The Game is played - how an organization like Fox news can get away with nothing short of propaganda, while at the same time being able to accuse the “liberal” media of a bias. It’s fascinating stuff, and told with great wit.
And some of the ways that folks like Rush and Bill O’Rielly deliberately distort information is quite shocking. These are carefully analysed in the book and one can’t help but shake one’s head at the bravado of these on-air personalities and authors.
Some of the best parts of the book relate to his run-ins with various people in positions of power in the government. Even Barbara Bush.
It’s a great read - informative, funny, and he backs up everything with actual research. If you have ever watched something on Fox news and explained: “What a d*ck” at whatever talking head was on - then you owe it to yourself to read this book.
