L.A. nightlife auteur Ivan Kane, who also owns Deep, rolls the dice and comes up a winner with his salute to past and present American pop culture. This small bar that once housed funk-fueled hot spot Kane has been transformed into a retro-cool lounge reminiscent of a 1920s speakeasy. The plush parlor features cushy lounge seating, while the horseshoe-shaped bar doubles as a runway for the burlesque dancers, who strut by in rhythm to every toe-tapping note played by the live jazz trio. Hollywood’s finest suits and sassiest sirens sip cocktails as they enjoy the intimacy of this cutting-edge cabaret.

Completely remodeled, the Bar Deluxe ditched its seedy past and has started a new life as a modern-day speakeasy. Erte-esque paintings and nude copper mannequins define the minimalist decor. The exposed brick wall behind the bar melds nicely with its backlit red bottles. Along with the look, this former hole-in-the-wall has expanded in width and is now three times its former size. A small DJ booth is tucked behind the adjacent lounge area: This is, after all, a venue which hosts rotating club nights–the biggest of which are the celeb-heavy Tuesday night parties.

Millions of dollars were spent transforming one of L.A.’s divey-est dance clubs, Crush Bar, into a stunning architectural and design marvel. Outside, a lush patio is topped with enormous tents. Inside, the priceless “Lady of White Lotus” statue oversees a parade of decked-out nightlifers heading for one of two bars or a seat at the plush pews. Celebs stick to lavish VIP areas, but can also be spotted groovin’ to hip-hop hits on the dance floor. Smokers bond outside on the small patio adjacent to the dance area.

When the coziest lounge in Hollywood fills to capacity every night, what are the owners to do? Open up a new bar with a swankier vibe right around the corner, of course. Within walking distance of Daddy’s, the Well maintains the sexy atmosphere of its predecessor, but adds a shot of sophistication. Keyhole doorways, intimate booths and cushy seating against one wall encourage a let’s-get-to-know-each-other mood. Making new friends is easy because the jukebox volume is set low enough so you can actually hear what you’re saying. Good thing, since it can be quite a mood-breaker when the songs switch from Sinatra to N.W.A. Get there early to pick your own soundtrack and order some finger food. Stick around when…
